Collection: VCI Coatings

VCI (Vapor Corrosion Inhibitor) coatings are a type of protective solution that guards metal surfaces against rust and other forms of corrosion. Unlike traditional coatings that form a physical barrier, VCI coatings release a chemical vapor into an enclosed space. This vapor then forms a thin, invisible protective layer on all exposed metal surfaces, including hard-to-reach areas. This layer interrupts the electrochemical process that causes corrosion.

How VCI Coatings Work

The technology relies on the principle of vapor-phase inhibition. When the coating is applied or contained within a sealed environment, it releases molecules into the air. These molecules travel throughout the enclosure and adhere to the metal surface, creating a protective molecular film. This film prevents moisture, oxygen, and other corrosive elements from reacting with the metal. The protective layer is "self-healing," meaning if it's disturbed, new VCI molecules will re-deposit to restore the barrier. When the part is removed from the VCI environment, the molecules dissipate, leaving no residue and the part ready for immediate use.

Selecting the Right Product

Choosing the proper  coating depends on several factors:

  • Environment: Whether the metal will be used or stored indoors or outdoors.
  • Duration: How long the protection is needed.
  • Metal Type: The specific type of metal to be protected.
  • Application Method: How the product will be applied (e.g., spraying, fogging, dipping).
  • Removal: Whether the coating needs to be easily removable.
